Lady Chapel - The East Window

Designed by J B Sebastian Comper and signed with his strawberry plant of flower and fruit. The upper half shows the Royal Air Force crest. The lower section depicts a middle aged St Anne along with a very girlish Virgin Mary in a blue robe. The window is dedicated to the memory of Flying Officer Richard Kirby Crowther, RAF, who was killed in 1944. He courageously escaped from Crete a month or so after the German invasion of the island only to be killed by a Flying Bomb after his return to England.
